Emotional Resilience and Teens

2020 has been an unusual time for everyone and not least for teenagers and young adults. With education settings being disrupted and home schooling becoming the norm in lock-down, it seems now really is the time to encourage and develop emotional resilience in our children.  Since 2016 I’ve been working in secondary schools delivering workshops on Growth Mindset, Confidence, Effective Goal Setting and Stress Management with Mindfulness. These type of tools are essential for young people to be able to cope easily with change, growth and unpredictable circumstances. Of which they are facing more than ever.

We know as adults that when we feel calm, stable, positive and secure that we can cope with more ease with whatever life throws at us. Instilling these techniques to young people, gives them to opportunity to harness these strengths earlier on in life and gives them a greater chance of enjoying there young adulthood.

Schools do an amazing job at teaching subject specific topics but how can they also support their students (or you your own child) in the field of emotional resilience? Simple Mindfulness techniques can go a long way and can be implemented really easily with breathing  and basic meditation, journaling work, expression through creative activities and simple listening tools. However if you are after something more formal one company currently offering comprehensive training  is The INLP Center with courses that cover a full spectrum of techniques.

Usually at this time of year, I am travelling across the UK and supporting schools that invest in this type of work but sadly workshops at the moment are on hold as everyone gets to grips with the new way of educating and learning. Hopefully I’ll be back delivering sessions soon and ensuring the well-being of the students is being recognised and supported. Stay safe everyone
