The Energy of Truth

Speaking your truth, communication and owning who you really are is now more available to us than ever before. We are encouraged and supported, virtually and in person to live our lives truthfully, be that within our sexuality, gender, spiritual beliefs or race. However for many people the idea of speaking up or being heard on a smaller scale is still a real challenge.  Whether it’s speaking up at a work meeting, responding to an over-bearing parent, or staying silent for fear of saying the wrong thing, every one of us has at some point felt dis-empowered enough to not speak our truth.  When this is held on to for many years it can manifest into negative emotions such as anger, anxiousness, bitterness, resentment or exhaustion. Energetically speaking, being able to get ‘something off your chest’ is vital for your health and peace of mind. Communication is key.

How do we go about making change, especially if that sense of not being seen or heard has been with us for a while? Connecting in to this and recognising your voice is the first step, perhaps start with the written word, putting pen to paper can help release a lot of emotion and it enables clarity and space as you can revisit the text. Secondly, work with the energy of the throat, notice if you hold tension in your jaw, work towards to opening this up with gentle neck rolls and breathing. Finally be bold, confide in a trusted friend if you are worried or concerned.

Don’t forget the channel of communication is also associated with listening. If you’re the type of person who always does all the talking then maybe it’s time to reflect on how you can listen more. A skill that’s easier said than done. I spoke to Yoga teacher Sue Bringloe about how she uses Yoga to connect with the art of communication.

Sue says “Giving your creativity a Voice is a beautiful Yoga practice. The first part of the  yoga practice we  use standing and balancing poses to connect through the Hara with the sacral chakra,  the energy centre associated with creativity and freedom of expression. These grounding poses can give a sense of stability and also lightness and joy.  The throat chakra acts as the body’s communication hub. It is associated with speaking out, expression,  and speaking one’s truth with clarity and responsibility.  The second part of the yoga practice we use the blissful long floor-based holds of yin poses to open the throat, neck and upper body creating space for our true voice to express our creativity.”
